Build a dexterous hand that survives the real world
Named on stage by Dr. Brandon DeHart (RoboHub) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 16 July 2026.
What the people stuck here are trying to get done
When my hand looks impressive in a demo but the seams split and pieces come apart, I want an end effector at a realistic degree-of-freedom budget that stays reliable, so I can do real work in a factory.
Who needs it solved
Humanoid and dexterous-hand builders who need an end effector that holds together in a real factory as well as in an investor demo.
What makes it hard
The gap between demo and factory: even flagship demos show "the seams splitting... pieces coming apart" just doing demo motions. Anthropomorphic hands with a high degree of freedom (DOF) are a trap because they are not reliable enough.
