Problems named on stage

Stop incoming drones and missiles without spending more than they cost

Named on stage by Matt Austin (Brigade Group) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 27 August 2026.

What the people stuck here are trying to get done

When every interception costs more than the threat and stockpiles run down, I want an interceptor at $750,000 or less, or a way to hit the launcher before it fires, so I can keep defending without draining the stockpile.

Who needs it solved

Air-defence builders and the militaries that buy them, in Ukraine, the United States and allied countries, who are spending interceptors that cost far more than what they stop.

What makes it hard

The cost asymmetry is not sustainable and replenishment takes years. Matt describes the $750,000 interceptor as something companies are trying to create, which means it does not exist yet.

“they're trying to create like a $750,000 or less interceptor. And the idea is like let's, let's just intercept more things that are flying at us and to try and do it not not say cheaper, but more affordably.”

“This, this, this cost asymmetry, you know, it's not sustainable in many ways.”
