Augment a person's movement, adapted to them (keep them in the loop)
Named on stage by Dr. Brandon DeHart (RoboHub) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 16 July 2026.
What the people stuck here are trying to get done
When a person is trying to move on purpose but their body fights them, I want a system that learns how that specific person is trying to move and augments it, so I can restore their action without taking them out of the loop.
Who needs it solved
Assistive-tech, rehab, and human-augmentation builders who want a personalized motion-intelligence platform that reads an individual's intent and carries across conditions.
What makes it hard
Augmentation that does not read the individual's intent fights the user, and it averages out the person it is meant to serve. Brandon's throughline: augment the human and keep them in the process.
What exists today
Tremor cancellation is the largely solved case of this: handheld stabilising devices exist. The open job is per-person, in-the-loop augmentation across conditions (Parkinson's, temporary tremor during rehabilitation, mobility) as a trainable platform. It ties to Brandon's view, from elsewhere in the talk, that technology should augment the person.
