Problems named on stage

Find and clear mines, submunitions and plastic munitions after the fighting

Named on stage by Matt Austin (Brigade Group) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 27 August 2026.

What the people stuck here are trying to get done

When the ground is littered with munitions, submunitions and mines, and 3D-printed plastic munitions are harder to find, I want detection and clearance that works on what is really there, so I can make land safe for decades after the war.

Who needs it solved

Demining and ordnance-disposal teams in Ukraine, and the builders of detection and clearance tools for them.

What makes it hard

The threat outlasts the war. Matt says it will be a threat for decades, and that plastic munitions are harder to find in the ground.

“3D printed military munitions which are plastic, which we've encountered some of in the past as Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. You know, harder to find them in the ground, especially when they're dropped.”
