Make fielded technology destroy or wipe itself before an enemy can use it
Named on stage by Matt Austin (Brigade Group) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 27 August 2026.
What the people stuck here are trying to get done
When my technology can be captured on the battlefield, I want a way to wipe it or destroy it before an adversary can exploit it, so I can deploy it without handing the other side my design or my data.
Who needs it solved
Founders who deploy hardware or software into a conflict zone, and the units who carry it, who need to keep it out of enemy hands.
What makes it hard
Capture is a design question that has to be answered before deployment, and founders rarely plan for it. Matt calls it something that has to be cleared up before you consider deploying.
“Self destruct. Absolutely. So to prevent. Prevent it from getting into enemy hands. Right. So how do you destroy a good like that? And these are types of instructions that you should be disseminating and training that are assembling with it. So you prevent your technology from getting in the hands of the enemy. Either being able to do a full wipe, not having anything held on board that can be taken or exploited by the intelligence teams. Destruction of certain components. Granted some. That all has to be cleared up before you even consider deploying it.”
What exists today
Matt lists approaches (a full wipe, nothing exploitable held on board, destruction of certain components) and says they have to be cleared up before deployment. He names no product that does it.
