Problems named on stage

Send touch, force, and an object's 3D shape over a network

Named on stage by Dr. Brandon DeHart (RoboHub) at a Startup Grind Kitchener-Waterloo fireside, 16 July 2026.

What the people stuck here are trying to get done

When two-thirds of my telerobotics challenge is getting non-standard sensory data on and off the system, I want to compress and transmit touch, force, and 3D shape at usable latency, so I can operate a robot remotely the way we already stream text, video, and pictures.

Who needs it solved

Teams building telerobotics and telesurgery systems, plus the telecoms partnering with them, who find the bottleneck is connectivity more than the mechatronics.

What makes it hard

These are data types no one has transmitted before, so latency and fidelity are unproven: "how do you send a texture or a force or the shape of an object?"
